Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker condemned the surge of authoritarianism in U.S. cities, noting that federal agents “fired upon journalists without provocation” and “marched down streets demanding papers,” referencing abuses of power by ICE and Customs.

“The MAGA Republican–supported invasion of Portland, Chicago, L.A., and Washington, D.C., is not making us any safer. Instead, it is putting our people in danger. For Donald Trump, this is not about fighting crime; this is about sowing fear, intimidation, and division among Americans. This is about consolidating power in Donald Trump’s hands,” he stated at a press conference held on Monday.

Pritzker added that what the current president of the United States intends to do with such power, both now and during the 2026 midterm elections, should be a cause for concern.

“The Trump Administration wants to deploy 100 military troops to Illinois. One thing is clear — none of this is making Illinois safer,” he wrote on his X account.

Following ICE’s unlawful behavior, the governor shared in early September a flyer guiding people on how to properly exercise their constitutional rights regardless of immigration status.
